HISTORICAL HORIZON, CULTURE AND SOCIETY IN THE PEOPLE’S EDUCATION
ABSTRACT
A theoretical proposal about people’s education made from the dialogue among the scientific knowledge and the local knowledge is presented. An ethnographic research made possible to understand the informal educational processes developed by two communities of Maracaibo, where the need to undertake reflections and take actions directed to social political education was noteworthy. Results converge on construction of a set of principles and pertinent criteria for the development of a people’s education that considers the cultural diversity, the traditional wisdom, the understanding of diverse social contexts, the existence of conflicts among actors that possess opposed economic interests and besides, external agents appreciate the importance of social insertion, and the study of the Way of life, as well. All this implies to recognize the inappropriateness of applying stiff approches and methods of education that intend to insert coherently inside the situation of each community, independently of its own history.
